Police in suburban Oak Lawn say that one person is dead and several others were injured after a high-speed crash involving multiple vehicles early Sunday morning. According to authorities, officers were called to the intersection of 110th Street and Cicero Avenue at approximately 1:50 a.m. Sunday. A preliminary investigation shows that a Dodge Charger and a Honda Accord were both traveling southbound on Cicero at a high rate of speed when the Charger struck the rear of a Lincoln 4-door sedan near the intersection. The force of the collision pushed the Lincoln into the path of an oncoming Dodge Ram pickup truck, which the Lincoln struck head-on. A passenger inside of the Lincoln was killed in the crash, and the driver of the vehicle was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ram truck was also taken to an area hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. Her two passengers were not injured in the collision. Police say that the Charger came to a stop after the crash at the intersection of 110th and Cicero. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was taken into custody by police. The Honda left the roadway near 109th and Cicero and struck a bus stop bench, causing the vehicle to roll over multiple times before it came to a stop in a parking lot, police said. The driver of the Honda was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the two drivers of the Charger and Honda will likely both face charges in the crash, but names will not be released until those charges are filed. Both drivers are currently under investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol.
