Anderson offers encouragement to injured Cubs’ Ed Howard originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago Keep going. That was part of White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson’s words of encouragement for Cubs prospect Ed Howard — who sustained a serious hip injury this week with Single-A South Bend. “Keep going,” Anderson said. “That’s all you can do. Keep going, keep working.” The Cubs were still waiting to learn the severity of Howard’s hip injury Friday night after he was evaluated by doctors in Chicago earlier in the day. It’s expected he’ll miss extended time. Howard, the Cubs’ 2020 first-round pick, fell awkwardly during Tuesday’s game with Single-A South Bend, lunging into first base while trying to avoid a tag after the throw from shortstop sailed up the line. He fell to the ground and appeared to be in visible pain. “It was just a freak accident,” Cubs farm director Jared Banner told NBC Sports Chicago. Anderson, who worked out with Howard last offseason and has been a mentor to him in recent years, learned about Howard’s injury before Friday’s game against the Yankees when a reporter asked about it. MORE: Sox All-Star on Ed Howard: ‘He’s going to put on a show’ Anderson said he planned to reach out to Howard after hearing the news. The Sox All-Star shortstop also imparted some wisdom in case Howard indeed misses significant time. “It isn’t like he won’t be able to play forever. I’m pretty sure he’ll get back healthy,” Anderson said. “A good time to learn yourself, a good time to study yourself, study your past at-bats, past defensive work. “Keep going. That’s all you can do.” Click here to follow the Cubs Talk Podcast. DownloadDownload MyTeams Today!
