Bears draft CB Kyler Gordon with first pick originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago With the No. 39 pick in the 2022 draft, the Bears selected Kyler Gordon, a cornerback out of Washington. Gordon has experience playing on the outside and in the slot, so he provides versatility for the team as Matt Eberflus works to rebuild the defense. Gordon also has experience playing in zone defenses like Eberflus’ and does a good job of keeping the play in front of him in those situations. One of Gordon’s strengths is sure tackling, with a knack for stopping ball carriers before they reach the line to gain. He was named All Pac-12 First Team in 2021. Some expected Ryan Poles to add a weapon to the offense to help Justin Fields, or to add an offensive lineman with his first pick as an NFL GM. Instead, he opted to help his head coach by adding an impact player to the defense. The Bears are slated to pick next at No. 48, then again at 71, but there’s a chance Poles opts to trade down from one of those spots to add more draft capital.
